AN3.3.2 Asset Management (focus on small urban water supply companies)
An asset management system, geographic information system, and network models are some of the tools available to water supply companies (WSCs) to assist them in the development of both a profitable and efficient utility, and to make an effective contribution to local and national efforts to implement the objectives of Water Saving Society. This document introduces the concept of asset management in the water sector and outlines recommendations for setting up an Asset Management System (AMS). The use of GIS and network modelling in asset management is also explained. The value of these tools to the operational performance of a WSC is discussed, as are potential resource implications.
